Senator Obama has said that he will vote for the pending FISA bill. Some of his Democratic colleagues in the Senate, however, have pledged to vote against that piece of legislation and have offered their reasons for choosing to do so. Let us look at comments by some of those who stand in opposition to Senator Obama's position and why they stand in oppostion. This may better help us to assess where Senator Obama stands on the left/right political continuum.

Senator Obama has spoken eloquently but has failed to deliver. I am astounded by the number of Democratic voters at this site who so badly wish to believe that Obama is GOING TO BE about change that they refuse to recognize that his refusal to oppose the proposed FISA legislation, now, in real time, shows that he is willing to support legislation which allows Bushco to continue it's unconstitutional activities. Let's look at what Obama has said regarding his FISA position.

There have been many well warranted discussions and debates regarding Obama's changed positions. What seems be lost in all of this is that Obama supporters, like me, have not changed positon at all. It is Obama who has moved! The biggest question this poses is what is it that we support; an individual, a political party or principles?

This November, for the first time, McCain's name will appear on a national ballot. While Arizona residents know a lot about McCain's political history, the nation, as a whole, knows relatively little. His national image is largely a fantasy created by his public relations machine. It is time now that the nation learns the facts about McCain. What better place to begin than in his home state with his fellow Republicans?

We have repeatedly heard it said that that the currently proposed telecom immunity provisions of the new FISA legislation do not create a new defense for telecoms who are defendants in civil litigation. That is true but it is only half of the truth. The whole truth is that while no new defense is created, this legislation will place an absurd and excessive burden upon plaintiffs in such suits! Whether a new defense were to be created or an absurd and excessive burden is placed upon plaintiffs, the net effect is the same; justice will be impeded!

Since day one, Pelosi has held that impeachment is off the table, but is that what she REALLY means? I think not! Follow me below the fold to find out more.

Dear Senator Clinton:

Your assertions regarding your superior credentials to serve as Commander in Chief puzzle me. I thought that we were electing a president rather than a military leader. That aside, there is no experience you have which I see as making you extraordinarily qualified to serve as Commander in Chief.

The Hillary solution I like best was her solution for those weapons of mass destruction that Saddam had, especially the nuke-u-lar weapons! Hillary took decisive action and voted to send our troops to war. Now we are safe and the world is a better place.

The contempt charges passed in the House represent yet another loss for progressives. Our "stab in the back" Congress has yet once again socked it to us. This is nothing more than another attempt to appear to be taking meaningful action while holding steadfastly to the principle of "do nothing". Go below the fold to find out why this is so.

Senator Clinton voted for the war. One hundred and forty of her colleagues in Congress voted against the war. Those in Congress who voted against the war had exactly the same information available to them that Senator Clinton had available to her.

This is not a "hit" or a "smear", this is a statement of objective fact and nothing can change it or refute it. All of this is a matter of public record.

When the matter of war was being considered by Congress, I repeatedly contacted my Senators and Congressman demanding that they not vote for war. Having lived through the Vietnam War, I could clearly see what was coming if we went to war yet once again.    

Today, former president Bill Clinton announced that he is endorsing Hillary as the Democratic nominee for president. He gave as his reasons that he always wanted to be "First Lady" and that he very much enjoys cross dressing anyway. Former Attorney General Janet Reno has agreed to donate a portion of her wardrobe to the former president.  

We often hear the comment that congressional Dems are "spineless", that they cave in to Bush on important issues. We have even seen them actively supporting Bush policies while offering feeble excuses for their behavior. During their first year in the majority, we have seen congressional Dems consistently fail to deliver the action they promised. Many seem to have suddenly changed their stripes once they became part of the majority. Congressman Conyers was beating the drum for impeachment of Bush and Cheney until Dems became the majority. Now he is actively obstructing impeachment efforts.

There are a number of facts which I, as a Democrat, consider to be of particular importance regarding Senator Clinton. These have played a central role in determining my opinion of whether or not I would like to see Senator Clinton leading this country.
